Hot on the LSC website is an item titled: "Amendments to civil legal aid route map timeline - consultation delays"
From the item:
"Consultations on the civil bid rounds and family fees 2010 have been published slightly later than scheduled and this may affect future milestones outlined in our route map for civil legal aid. We will provide as much time as we possibly can:
between publication of the final fee schemes and the requirement to bid
and between the announcement of decisions and the end of the current contracts
On a positive note, this could mean delays in you needing to tender although, this is the optimistic reading of the LSC announcement. It might also mean that there will be very little time to do anything as the delays in publishing consultation responses have already eaten into so much of the civil route map stage markers that you won't have as much time as you previously thought
I imagine that TLS and ASA and/or the networks will need to clarify

The ilegal team asked the LSC for clarification regarding the article referred to in the previous message, which originally appeared on the LSC website on 4th Feb
Melena Ward, Policy Manager (Civil Strategy Team), came back to us and confirmed that the LSC had now revised the text in the item to include more explanation and clarification
A couple of key statements from the revised piece:
"...we won’t be in a position to tender before September."
And:
"However, these timings remain subject to the outcomes of these consultations and our final proposals."
Follow the link in the previous item for the LSC's revised article
"We have postponed the civil bid rounds scheduled for September
Civil bid rounds for 2010 contracts, which we had announced would open in September 2009, will now be delayed. Contracts will be extended for 6 months to October 2010. The published proposals for the nature of the new contract will remain unchanged."
