Shelter to close advice service in Chester
THE housing and homelessness charity, Shelter, is closing its face-to-face advice services in Chester on April 1 due to cuts in legal aid.
The service, based in York Street, offers specialist housing advice, advocacy and representation for people who are homeless or have housing problems. Subjects covered include rent or mortgage arrears, harassment and finding accommodation. The cuts will mean job losses in the city.
Shelter’s chief executive Campbell Robb said: “Sadly we have had to take the difficult decision to close nine of our housing advice services. This is a result of the huge cuts to legal aid in England, which we campaigned vigorously against........"
