Most advice sector bods doing legal aid can't afford whizzy case management software for private firms. Some of these can produce legal aid bills at the press of a button - importing all the existing time recording into the Claim1, a form which requires knowledge of a fiendish language of codes and rates and careful, accurate use of a calculator.
CaseTrack from ZCS is often the time recording software used in Advice Bureaux and Law Centres. It's simple, cheap and good at producing the reports needed to bill Controlled/Legal Help work, but has never given as much attention to Licensed/Certificated cases.
So after getting out the Tip-Ex for the umpteenth time on my latest bill, I did a bit of surfing and came across this chap - GLH Software. He's the practice manager in his wife's firm and he's developed a few handy billing spreadsheets and so on for their own use. This includes an Excel version of the current civil Claim1 form. He kindly sent me a copy on approval and I liked it so I bought it - for the princely sum of £20! It can be used for all civil categories and I have tweaked mine to store the relevant time recording codes and the rates for my housing work in drop down menus.
So put away the calculator and save some time by dropping Gordon an email (and no I'm not on commission):
